Give Your Home A Fresh New Look With New Landscaping

Is your landscape in such bad shape that even birds avoid your yard? You aren't the only one. Many people are changing up their property thanks to innovative new landscaping techniques. The following article offers helpful tips you can use to turn your yard into a more attractive area.

If you want to transform your yard, try re-edging your flower and rock beds using a soft, curved design. Curved beds are the newer style and much more up-to-date than a sharp corner or straight line. It's relatively inexpensive to cut fresh edges and they will make a big difference.

Use native plants in your yard. It is easier to take care of native plants since they can thrive with the normal conditions in your area. This means that taking care of them would not require a lot of maintenance. Visit your local gardening center to find out more about plants native to your particular area.

Before you begin your project, you should make sure that you have a list of the things you need to complete your project so that you are not running back and forth to home improvement stores. You don't want to be knee-deep in your project to discover that you're missing something crucial.

Consider using granite for surfaces on outdoor kitchen areas you may be planning to add to your landscaping. There are many different attractive kinds of stone available, but granite provides the best value in terms of durability and low maintenance requirements. Hot cooking utensils will not damage a granite surface, for instance.

Thinking of putting your home on the market soon? Landscaping can provide you with great returns on your home. You should fix up your front lawn initially, so that your home will be appealing to buyers as they pull up to your curb. You can also develop your backyard as an outdoor living area that extends the function of your home.

Landscaping is more than just planting flowers, grasses and trees. Look around your home and see where you can add things, such as iron structures, wood, and cement. Bird baths, arches, decks, and pergolas can enhance the visual interest and beauty of your landscape. These elements come in many different prices no matter your budget.

Shop online to save money and get a larger selection. Several websites are available that have great products for an excellent price. Be sure to consult the reviews of previous customers before ordering to ensure that you will not be disappointed by the product you select or the manner in which it is shipped. Always shop around from site to site.

Before going to the local lawn and garden store to pick up landscaping materials, you should get the correct measurements of the area you plan on working in. This makes it easier to know how much of every item you will need. Doing so can help you to avoid purchasing too little--or too much--of anything.

Plant with an eye towards keeping your landscape beautiful all year round. This requires you to include specimens that thrive at different times of the year. You need to research plant types before planning your landscape so that it will have life and color throughout the year.

A good way to help plants survive is to utilize peat moss. Peat moss provides ground cover while also providing necessary plant nutrients. In addition to that, peat moss could also be an attractive contrast in other areas in your yard.

If you want a nice looking landscape that is hardy and simple to look after, native plants should be used whenever possible. It's a lot easier to take care of most native plants than plants that don't grow locally because native plants have already adapted to your climate. These plants are cheaper and easier to grow in your yard.

Use your landscaping space wisely. For instance, if you don't like the sound of passing cars, you can muffle those sounds with hedges. Creating a play-space in your yard can not only entertain your children, but add some fun and interest to the look of your yard. You can divide your yard into different sections, one part can be for grilling, the other for socializing, and another for children to play in.

Don't allow yourself to put off a project just because you can't afford it. This is actually a quite common practice which allows you to save finances while the work is being done and you will not have to have it all up front. You might even find that a couple of additions that are carefully chosen will make an appealing look.

You could attract birds that you can watch through your window, or your neighbors could come over to barbecue. This guide will give you all the information you need to get started. If you are willing to put in the necessary time and effort, the methods you have been given here can help you find success.

Do You Find Gardening To Be Confusing? Read This

A garden makes a home look great but does even more than that. It is also more than just something people with green thumbs can do. It can be relaxing and a great way to tackle stress in your life. It can teach you about the wonders of nature. Gardening is best when you have the knowledge to do it right.

Your plants need to adapt and must be gradually introduced to changes in temperature or condition. On the first day, place them in the sun outside for only an hour or so. Over a period of several days, slowly increase the time they are allowed to stay outside. Once the transition is complete, your plants will probably be able to tolerate the outdoor conditions.

Digging in hard clay soil is made even more difficult because it sticks to the shovel. To ease the digging, apply some car wax or floor wax to the head of the shovel and buff. The clay will no longer stick to the shovel, and this also helps to prevent other problems like rusting.

Transfer your favorite plants indoors to rescue them from the winter frosts. This is especially useful if you have a particular plant that you love or was expensive. When you dig up the plant, carefully avoid the roots then place it in a container.

Make sure to be weary of stink bugs whenever you garden, particularly during the fall months. They like fruits, as well as peppers, beans and tomatoes. If left unattended, your garden could be ravaged by these bugs, so you need to proactively keep their population under control.

An excellent garden shouldn't begin from plants. They should begin from seeds. Once the plant is healthy enough, replant it in your garden with the appropriate type of soil. It is common for commercial plants to be packaged in plastic that is not commonly recycled, and therefore, it is better to use seeds or purchase plantings only from merchants who make use of organic packaging.

Place a two inch layer of organic mulch at the base of your tall vegetable plants. Mulch will retain water so that you won't have to water your plants as often. In addition, mulch will help you to prevent weeds. Every gardener can appreciate pulling fewer weeds.

Take what you learned from this article and bring your garden back to life. When your plants bloom and come alive you will feel tremendous joy and satisfaction. Gardening has the potential to change your whole outlook on life, if you let it. So get started today!

Solid Advice On What Types Of Garden Soil To Use

If you want to embrace a healthier lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet, organic horticulture is the way to go. You do have to put in some effort, though. This can make you wonder where to begin for growing your own organic garden.

Choose perennials that slugs are not attracted to. A particularly vulnerable plant can be killed by snails and slugs overnight. They often enjoy feeding on perennials with very smooth and tender leaves. Young plants are a special favorite of theirs. Perennials that have thick, furry leaves and unpleasant tastes are less likely to attract slugs and snails. Some of the best varieties of these include achillea, campanula, euphorbia, and heuchera.

Your first and best line of defense against pests is having healthy soil. Healthier plants are greater in strength and resistance to illness and insects. Start your garden off with a high-quality soil that you can enrich over time.

Transfer your favorite plants inside so they survive the winter. Try to save plants that are expensive or that are resistant enough to handle the transition. When you dig up the plant, carefully avoid the roots then place it in a container.

It is important to choose the right type of soil if you want to achieve the best results. You may need to alter the kind of soil you use based on the types of plants you intend to grow. It's also possible to make a fabricated area that contains only one type of soil.

When you decide to add vegetables into your garden space, be aware that they must be placed where they will receive direct sunlight for a minimum of six hours daily. Most vegetables require this amount of sun in order to grow properly and at a quicker pace. Some flowers have the same requirement for growth.

Protect the soil around your vegetable plants with an inch or two of organic mulch. Mulching helps keep moisture in the soil. This is also efficient in preventing weeds from growing. This will save you having to constantly pull weeds.

If you are gardening with a cut, make sure that you adequately protect it from dirt and chemicals. Open wounds can easily get infected while horticulture because you're exposing yourself to dirt, bacteria and germs. However, there are bandages available that will seal the cut completely. Using these should protect the cut from any infection while gardening.

As this article has shown, to be successful at organic gardening you must do your homework and put forth a bit of effort. You will get great results if you are consistent and patient. Keep the tips offered in mind and you can see more success.

Just because carpet cleaners use some famous products doesn't mean that they're more reliable and experienced than other companies. Check that the cleaning company has the proper certifications. If they are unable to supply you with the information you requested, there are methods to verifying their work, including talking to their previous customers and calling the Better Business Bureau.

Try out a few products before choosing one that is best for cleaning your carpet. There are dozens of different choices for cleaning your carpets, each with its own unique purpose and carpet type. If you find something that works especially well, remember what it is and use it often.

The best carpet cleaners have an IICRC certification. This is a standard certification used for carpet cleaners world-wide. If you have carpets with warranties, make sure your cleaner is fully certified. If your cleaner does not have this certification, then your carpet manufacturer can void your carpet's warranty.

Vacuum before the cleaner comes over. The longer you spend vacuuming a room, the more dirt will be picked up. By taking care of your carpet, it will save you money as well as require less effort in the future. The time invested will be worth the results.

Baking soda is an inexpensive, natural carpet deodorizer. Many pricey carpet deodorizing powders are mostly baking soda with a touch of fragrance. Instead, you should hire a company who uses baking soda. You can temporarily mask bad odors by mixing some essential oils with some baking soda but you should find a professional who can apply a deodorizer to your carpet if you cannot get rid of bad odors yourself.

Ask about their screening process and what that company does for the employees. You do not want to allow criminals into your home for any reason. Most reputable companies perform a complete background check and will happily share this fact with the consumer. Keep looking if anyone is reluctant to show you this.

A great carpet cleaner can significantly improve the appearance of your carpets. The information here will help you select a good cleaning company. Take what you've learned to heart, and soon you'll have great looking carpeting again.

Is a backyard reception tacky?

There is nothing "improper" or "inappropriate" about having an an outdoor reception as look as the site is "clean, neat, and tidy" and big enough to accommodate all of your guests (and their cars). I am assuming you plan to rent a tent if it rains, and, if not, then I hope your grandparents' house is big enough to hold all of those guests if it does rain.

Contrary to popular belief, an outdoor wedding in someone's backyard is not LESS EXPENSIVE than having it in a hotel or community hall or firehouse. You have to rent a tent, tables, chairs, porta potties PLUS you have to provide silverware, plates, glassware, lots of ice, and tablecloths PLUS you have to provide the food and beverages. Yes, all of those items add up quickly!

I am assuming you want to make a good impression so here's a few things you should keep in mind . .

It is YOUR responsibility to provide the tables, chairs, place settings, food, and beverages. Do not let anyone tell you it is OK to have a potluck dinner or ask your guests to bring their own lawn chairs to YOUR wedding.

All pets (and their food dishes) should be put away that day. Guests have allergies and are offended by seeing pet food half eaten in a dish on the kitchen floor.

Make sure their is enough toilet tissue in each bathroom. And make sure the bathrooms are "neat, clean and tidy."

Make sure your guests know that the reception is taking place outside (in case they need to bring a sweater or jacket).

Make signs directing your guests to the house or provide a detailed map to the house. There is nothing worse than getting twenty phone calls from guests stating, "We're lost."

Don't start setting up for the reception two hours before the wedding begins. Try to get as much done as possible 24-48 hours prior to your wedding. You wedding day should not be filled with things "to do" at the reception site.

Are stainless steel appliances trendy?

On One Hand: Increasing in Popularity

Once the domain of restaurants and American diners, stainless steel has become one of the fastest growing finishes for residential kitchen appliances. According to website Stainless-Online, consumer studies show that 40 percent of new appliances use a stainless steel finish. Since the mid-1980s, more homeowners have opted for the metallic, shiny modern look that differentiates from the ivory veneer of kitchens past.

On the Other: Safety Issue

The rise in popularity is not merely aesthetic. Stainless steel appliances are generally considered healthier, safer alternatives because scratches to the surface often do not turn into rust. This can be a barrier against the spread of germs and bacteria. Because the material does not stain, foods with heavy dyes and pigments won't cause discoloring of surfaces.

Bottom Line

While stainless steel's slick look and modern surface is becoming an increasingly pleasing aesthetic, the safety and durability of stainless steel appliances have helped pushed their popularity from the restaurants to home kitchens. Many consumers are realizing that investing more money in stainless steel products in the short term will save them money in the long run for both timeless look and life span of the appliance.

Always use protective gloves and cool the pipe afterwards in a bucket of cold water.

Small backyard, big dog? | Yahoo Answers

I think a Lab or a Golden is an excellent choice.

Please don't set your heart on a puppy; for first time dog owners with children, adopting an adult is a MUCH better option. The dog will already be housebroken and will have had some training.

Don't go to a shelter. I know, most people tell you to go there, first. The trouble is, the dogs there are all mysteries: you don't know their histories, their eccentricities... often you can't even tell their breeds! You want to check in your local area for a hobby breeder of Labs or Goldens-- someone who hunts or shows or competes in obedience and occasionally breeds a litter. Sometimes those breeders have adults that need re-homing, or they know of a dog that needs a home and can help you out.

The perfect dog for you is a neutered adult of either gender, 3-5 years old, with history of living well with children. You can teach the dog to use your little back patio for potty breaks, but you will have to walk him several times a day, and one of the adults will have to find a way to run the dog at least once a day: either with a bicycle or roller blades or a scooter.

I also recommend an obedience class as soon as possible. The dog may already know the commands; the class will teach him to take orders from you. And you will learn how to teach him new commands. Plus, it's great fun! Involve the kids!

Good luck!

NEW YORK -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue.

Reportlinker Adds Energy-Efficient Home Renovations Market, Part I: Windows, Doors Insulation

http://www.reportlinker.com/p0137890/Reportlinker-Adds-Energy-Efficient-Home-Renovations-Market-Part-I-Windows-Doors--Insulation.html

Green building is no longer just a fad; in fact, energy-efficient remodeling and renovating is one of the few aspects of the U.S. construction business that still holds a positive outlook in the midst of the economic turmoil in 2009.

The U.S. residential construction market was $363 billion in 2008, down 41% from its high of $620 billion in 2006. The home renovations market was $188 billion in 2008, down 18% percent from 2007. But SBI estimates that the home energy efficiency renovations market in the U.S. was $21 billion in 2008; down only 13% percent from 2007's $24 billion.

Remodeling to improve a home's energy efficiency instead of buying a new home has become a preferred option in today's market. In fact, the National Association of Home Builders found that 32% of home builders also provided remodeling services in 2008. Homeowners are still seeing the benefits of improving their home's energy efficiency even in the economic instability of 2009. With energy consciousness shooting to the forefront of the media during the 2008 oil price peak, the Propane Education Research Council has found 80% of homeowners are now concerned about the energy efficiency of their homes.

Home builders and remodelers have been quick to provide remodeling services that are focused on energy conservation and green building practices; as an example, 85% of remodelers surveyed by the National Association of Home Builders in 2008 used energy-efficient windows on the majority of their projects. Retailers and manufacturers of building projects, residential builders and remodelers, and even state and federal organizations now have to be able to provide knowledgeable energy conservation expertise to succeed in their business.

Home energy efficiency analysis now uses a 'whole building' approach, affecting all categories of building materials, from windows and doors to insulation to completely eliminating air leaks. To fully embrace this view, this report looks at the impact energy-efficient building products are having on the renovations market in a number of categories:

* Part I explores the market for energy-efficient doors and windows, caulking and weather stripping, and insulation used in home renovation projects.

* Part II examines the energy-efficient appliance and lighting markets for home remodeling.

* Part III looks at energy-efficient heating and cooling systems and the growing trend of energy-efficient roof renovations.

Report Methodology

Durable and Attractive Vinyl Fencing

Vinyl fencing is a sturdy, low maintenance and long lasting option a buyer should strongly consider. Unlike wood, it will no dry and split over time. Also, unlike metal it will not rust. Many different styles and sizes are available from the manufacturer that can be used virtually anywhere. Available in different colors that last, painting is a thing of the past.

While wood fencing can be cheaper, over time they can rot and make it easier for livestock to break through and possibly injure themselves on the broken wood. Horses and mules also chew on wood and can compromise the stability of the fence and decrease the curb appeal. There are multiple styles of vinyl horse fence available like two, three or four post and rail, or an attractive cross buck. Because the product is not wood, the animals will not chew on it, it will last longer and it does not splinter if by chance it is broken by a strong force.

The use of barbed wire fence can cause injury to animals and cause death if they get tangled in it. Barbed wire can also injure people that tend to the animals, leaving torn clothing or cuts on the skin which if the wire is rusty you may need to get a tetanus shot. Ch

ain link would also not be preferable because it can stretch, weaken and form holes.

The stockade vinyl fence is ideal for privacy around a pool, to keep the dog in the yard, the dog or deer out of your garden or just added privacy and security around the perimeter of your home.

Picket styles are available in straight and scalloped tops. The little picket fence will never need painted and will not be on the honey-do list every year. All it needs to look new is a quick spray with the hose. This medium size provides a barrier between your yard and the street and will contain small animals and children while adding curb appeal.

Vinyl fencing prices change based on size, style and color. The most basic post and rails runs on average $16. End caps cost $1 per piece, upright post on average $10. The fancier the you get the more you will pay. A straight picket panel, measuring three feet tall and six feet long will run $55.

Vinyl fencing is durable and made to withstand harsh weather much better than its competition. It does not age and break down like wood and will not rust and change color like metal. With never needing to strip or paint, it is a very low maintenance, high quality investment that is functional and looks great.

Should I tell a second roofing contractor the estimate that the first roofing contractor gave me?

The shrewd negotiating strategy would be not to tell roofer #2 what roofer #1's price is until roofer #2 names his own price for your job. Then, if #2's estimate is higher than #1's, tell roofer #2 what #1 offered you, and ask #2 if he can beat that deal. If #2's estimate is lower than #1's, then call roofer #1 back and ask if he can beat #2's price.

That's why this kind of estimate is called a "bid." It works something like an auction in reverse (sale goes to the lowest bidder).

Indoor Shooting Ranges in Pittsburgh

Indoor ranges are excellent places to learn to shoot, practice self-defense skills and enjoy shooting year round.Folks interested in indoor pistol shooting, target shooting, shooting games, instruction, gunsmith services or firearms purchases have two great options in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area. Anthony Arms at West Mifflin and A&S Indoor Pistol Range at Youngwood, located 15 and 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh respectively, offer great facilities.

Anthony Arms Retail Facility Rivals Mega-Retailers

Anthony Arms' retail operation is huge, clean and bright, and adorned with a wide range of stunning taxidermy, including dozens of exotic African species. The enormous elephant that overlooks the operation is awe-inspiring, partly because it doesn't seem overbearing in the extensive showroom.

Anthony Arms is an authorized dealer of more than 40 firearms brands. Hundreds of guns are displayed for sale -- from Glocks to ARs, Remingtons to Berettas, rare collectibles and antiques to custom engraved handguns, new and used. The selection rivals those offered by many mega retailers.

Add in an amazing selection of accessories, an on-site gunsmith and knowledgeable staff, and Anthony Arms is a gem in the heart of coal country.

Anthony Arms Shooting Range

The 10-year-old, 1,800-square-foot facility also boasts a 16-lane, indoor range on the lower level, underground. It could easily have been designed to feel bunker-like, but it doesn't. The registration desk, tables and chairs, additional mounts and handsome selection of swords are situated in a large, brightly lit common area. A range master is on duty to assist by answering questions and overseeing safe operations at all times.

The range is positioned behind glass opposite the desk. Shooters enjoy comfortably spaced shooting stalls in a climate-controlled environment. Trays that hold firearms with the barrel pointed downrange also promote safe gun handling when positioning or retrieving targets via the smoothly operating, push-button electric system.

Handguns from .22 to .50 are permitted on the range. If you don't own a handgun, rentals are available along with eye and ear protection. Ammunition must be purchased from Anthony Arms. And, purchase only what you plan to shoot because extra ammo carried out of the facility may not be brought back inside.

Range fees are reasonable and set on a per-person, per-hour basis. Avid shooters, however, should consider a range membership. Memberships include free range time for the year, a five-percent discount on gun purchases, a 10-percent discount on accessories (excluding ammo, rentals and targets) and half-price range time for friends and family when they accompany the member.

Plan to be on the range at least one hour before closing and prepare for the last call for ammo and targets 30 minutes before lights out.

A&S Indoor Pistol Range

The operation at A&S Indoor Pistol Range is significantly smaller than Anthony Arms, but offers suitable digs for shooting, instruction, and gun repairs/customization along with a modest retail store.

The 12-lane, glass-enclosed and climate-controlled range boasts an electric retrieval system and excellent exhaust system. All true pistol calibers are permitted, handguns and long guns. In addition, numerous pistols are available for rent.

As it is at Anthony Arms, safety is paramount, but shooters are not required to participate in a safety orientation. The range master is situated in an observation area outside the range. Targets and ammo are sold at the range desk, where the rentals also are kept. On the range, factory loads and reloads are permitted; however, targets must be purchased at the range.

Fees are offered for singles for 30- or 60-minutes. Two shooters can get a great deal by sharing one lane for an hour. Annual and monthly memberships also are available. For a minimal monthly membership fee, new shooters can try shooting and garner instruction at a reasonable price. Private instruction and a variety of detailed group classes are also available.

The range is separated from the retail section of the facility.

A&S Retail Store

In the retail area, a modest but reasonable selection of handguns and long guns, new and used, is available. Included in the selection are Smith & Wesson, Beretta, Browning, Savage, Mossberg and Remington. Ammunition, gun cases, holsters, gun sights, slings and bipods are among the accessories sold.

In addition, the business owner, who is also the gunsmith, has an excellent reputation, as evidenced by state police officers who drop off duty pistols for servicing.

A&S Focuses on Instruction and New Shooters

New shooters, women and anyone interested in learning about firearms for self-defense are welcome at A&S, where shooting classes are a big focus of the operation.

Anyone in the Pittsburgh area looking for a safe, clean and fun indoor environment to learn to shoot, fine tune shooting skills, enjoy shooting games or competitions, engage the services of a gunsmith or shop for firearms or accessories should visit Anthony Arms or A&S Indoor Pistol Range.
